Bryophytes reproduce in a very interesting and unique way. They reproduce asexually. There are two phases, gametophyte and sporophyte. The male plant makes sperm and the female makes eggs.. Hey! Just like humans! The male sperm "swim" to the females, get inside the female plant, combine with the egg, and make the sporophyte. The sporophyte grows on top of the female and when it is mature, spores fall out.
How They're Beneficial
Bryophytes are amazing little plants in a way that they are nonvascular yet they can still do so many things. There are three main types of Bryophytes. They are, moss, liverworts, and hornworts. These plants help benefit the environment in several ways. They prevent soil erosion, they are the first to sprout back after disasters, they hold moisture, they help seeds germinate, and they're used as soil amendments.
